Texas Road Trip for 48 hrs in San Saba

The Pecan Capital of the World is just 3 hours outside of Dallas and proved to be a charming escape from the hustle and bustle with beautiful accommodations, charming restaurants, unique shopping and great outdoor activities. Allow me to share why San Saba needs to join your Texas list!

WHERE TO STAY

The Dofflemyer Hotel is in the center of San Saba with keyless entry rooms, rustic charm and Oliver and Company in the lobby for light bites and strong coffee. We were impressed with the room amenities like the robes, unreal shower and cozy sheets. I am also a sucker for a place that knows every detail. The free coffee bar and earplugs were what made me most impressed here.

WHERE TO EAT

For coffee, breakfast and bites hit up Oliver and Company, Larry’s Corner Cafe, Alamo Pecan & Coffee (which is also where you can try and buy pecans in all kinds of flavors to take back home with you.

Lunch options are plentiful.

Pepperbelly’s, Agave Jalisco or Tacos Mi Casa for Mexican food.

Bar D Brewhouse for burgers and appetizers as well as the largest beer flight we have ever seen.

For a nice dinner, you have to try The Pecan House Grill. We loved it so much we ate there for dinner on the first night and lunch the next day. They have these insanely soft dinner rolls and the brisket queso was a 12/10. Servings are LARGE, too.

WHERE TO SHOP

Whether you’re in need of new western boots, a unique antique, or new boutique clothes San Saba has you covered.

The Open Door has a variety of Mexican pottery and rustic style home decor.

JC Campbell & Co Mercantile is a two story store with many vendors. Pictured below!

Harry’s Boots has affordable western boots, an entire upstairs hat room and cute souvenirs. James took home his first pair of cowboy boots here!

The Pantry is connected to the Pecan House Grill and has fun trinkets as well as baby and bridal shower gifts.

Bard & Hallow is a beautifully curated antique store you could spend a good chunk of time exploring. They also serve mimosas on the weekends!

Switch Boutique is where I found the outfit I changed into for the day! There was so many cute pieces, and a good chunk of yellow.

Oh, and the most unique shop? An olive oil tasting store: San Saba Olive Oil Company.

Ultimately San Saba is great destination for mother daughter trips, friend trips, and for a romantic getaway because not only is there fun shops but there is great wine!

THINGS TO DO

Wedding Oak Winery was quite possibly my favorite spot, not just because the wine was great but because the sweet ladies working were so hospitable. They helped us learn all about where the Texas made wine comes from and let us take a tour of all the barrels in the back!

They have a great outdoor patio with plenty of shade and they don’t skimp on your tastings! My favorite ending up being the Bridal View and James loved the Something Blue.

The San Saba County Historical Museum is a great place to learn more about the history of San Saba, and if you want to see something really special you can check out the Wedding Oak Tree just outside of town.

Mill Pond Park is where you can cool off in the water or just stroll the trails. There’s a super cute waterfall there too that makes for a great photo op!

For even more hiking you can check out Risien Park! I was impressed to say the least. You will find good walking trails and fresh air.

Although we didn’t get to check out Colorado Bend State Park just outside of San Saba on this trip, we want to head back soon to lay our eyes on the spectacular views for ourselves.

You guys should have tried the live music and great food at the Bend General Store at the entrance to Colorado State Park. Maybe next trip!
